Chancellor's Parents Advisory Council (CPAC) Pass Resolutions Opposing DoE Restructuring and Calling for a Moratorium of CDEC Elections...

I would encourage everyone to read the following recently passed resolutions by CPAC...

As a parent and District 27 Council of Presidents Representative to the CPAC, I wholeheartedly give my support to the stated positions in the resolutions...

I earnestly ask that all voting PA members honor the Moratorium and help send a stinging indictment of the status quo to Chancellor Klein and Mayor Bloomberg...

I believe that this Moratorium will demonstrate that we want a substantial voice in the decisions regarding the education of our children...

Parents deserve a seat at the table at the DoE, instead of just the privatization profiteers...

On April 12, 2007, the Chancellor's Parents Advisory Council unanimously passed the following two Resolutions:

  1. RESOLUTION: April 12, 2007 - On a Moratorium on the Elections for Community District Education Councils

(Click above for a copy of the full resolution, only the closing paragraph of the resolution follows)

."..Therefore, be it RESOLVED that CPAC urge PAs and selectors not to participate in the selection and election of CDEC members for the 2007-09 term to begin on July 1, 2007, until the DoE modifies the present election process. Such modifications include, but are not limited to: informing prospective candidates about their responsibilities, empowering communities to participate in the selection process, and changing the rules of eligibility to include experienced and dedicated retiring PA officers by conducting the CDEC elections in June, so that PA officers may complete their term prior to joining the CDEC."

  1. RESOLUTION: April 12, 2007 - On Department of Education’s Restructuring, Accountability, and Weighted Funding Proposals

(Click above for a copy of the full resolution, only the closing paragraph of the resolution follows)

"...Therefore, be it RESOLVED that CPAC rejects the Department of Education's Restructuring and Weighted Student Funding Plan and calls upon the Mayor and the Chancellor to postpone implementation of this plan, and instead, immediately hold public hearings on the priorities for education spending and restructuring of the New York City Public Schools."

Parents, teachers and members of the community have been shut out of the decision making process at Tweed for too long...I urge you to make your voices heard on behalf of our children...

Let's send parents, teachers and educators back to Tweed...!
