Several middle and high schools students received financial awards at A Better Chance's annual awards luncheon.
The event recognizes minority students who do not always have the opportunity to go to college.
"It was really a visionary program that recognized if you give students the opportunity and give them all the kinds of supports that they need, they could rise to leadership and be successful in college and in life, as well,” said A Better Chance President Sandra Timmons.
"I'm nervous and happy, and really honored,” said award recipient Elianny Camilo. “I'm honored to be a part of this program that's so supportive and prestigious. I'm really grateful."
Many of the students hope to attend Ivy League universities like Columbia and Princeton.
