Coming off a blow out victory in last week’s primary election in which Joe Addabbo officially snagged the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican incumbent Serf Maltese in November’s general election for state senate, the formidable Communications Workers of America (CWA) union hit the pavement this past weekend in Middle Village and Maspeth. On Saturday, September 13th, about 25 members of the CWA kicked off the first of a marathon series of weekend walks throughout the 15th senate district with a rally at Addabbo Campaign Headquarters:
“Joe Addabbo knows what working families need to survive. Joe will fight to end corporate tax breaks for companies that send our jobs out of state and over seas. He’ll fight for paid family leave so we don’t have to choose between our children or our paycheck. And he’ll stand up for a fair wage and decent benefits, because he always has and he always will. On issue after issue, we need a change from
Serf Maltese and Albany politics as usual - working families should vote for Joe Addabbo," said Bob Master, Political Director of the Communications Workers of America, District 1.
“The rising cost of living has made life in New York near impossible, and I will fight for fair pay, I will fight for increased aid for education so our children can get the skills they need for the 21st century, and health care coverage for our working men and women. Thank you for taking time out of your Saturday to spend it with us. Real life isn’t 9-5 and neither am I,” added Addabbo.
"We have heard the voices of New Yorkers, and our focus as Senate Democrats is on rebuilding New York's economy by creating jobs, cutting property taxes, and improving health care. We are working throughout the district and will be pounding the pavement, and addressing issues that are important to the community,” added Senator Malcolm Smith, Democratic Leader of the New York State Senate.
There are 180,000 members of CWA District 1, which encompasses the entire North East. In New York Senate District 15 alone, which includes the Queens communities of Howard Beach, Ridgewood, Richmond Hill, Ozone Park, S. Ozone Park, Maspeth, Glendale, parts of Elmhurst and Sunnyside, there are over 1,200 CWA members.
