Six blocks in Howard Beach were roped off on Thursday after one or more residents were allegedly found squirreling away more than 200 firearms and one “suspected explosive device” in their house, according to police.
Although one arrest was made, the investigation is ongoing and police have not released the suspect’s name or address.
From about noon until 7 p.m. last Thursday, the area surrounding 164th Avenue between 90th and 91st Streets was blocked off by yellow tape and a multitude of police and emergency vehicles were stationed on the block.
According to residents’ reports, several officers were spotted exiting one house carrying myriad bags.
“Nobody knew what was going on, but I heard a father and son were collecting bombs,” one resident said. “That’s what people were saying.”
