The Governor's Mansion led the state's on-going efforts to reduce greenhouse emissions Thursday when First Lady Michelle Paterson unveiled the house's first installation of solar panels.

The panels, placed on the Rockefeller Pool House, are one of many upcoming "green" initiatives to help reduce the mansion's energy consumption and pollution.

Paterson said she hopes to cut the mansion's electrical energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent.

"The executive mansion will continue its transformation into not only a showcase of cutting-edge green building technology, but an example of what every New Yorker can do to make their home into a greener, healthier environment," said Paterson.

The Governor's Mansion is also phasing in the use of non-toxic cleaning products, organic pest control and electric mulching lawn mowers.

Last Saturday, Governor David Paterson signed an executive order that commanded the state government to purchase environmentally-safe products and reduce trash output, consumption levels, energy usage and public health hazards.
