Cars regularly race by 73rd Place and 66th Drive, a residential street crossing where neighborhood children regularly walk. After years of complaining to local officials and the Department of Transportation, the community called upon Elizabeth Crowley, Democratic candidate for City Council, to help.
Elizabeth Crowley said, "This crossing is incredibly dangerous. We must do something before someone is injured or even killed, especially a child."
Police had previously had a temporary speed trap on the street for a brief period and clocked cars racing down the street at speeds over 60 mph. Elizabeth Crowley also called upon the 104 police precinct to reestablish the speed trap to enforce traffic laws to stop speeders until the DOT addressed the problem.
