United Federation of Teachers Endorse Assemblyman Mike Miller for Re-Election
New York State United Teachers, CUNY Professional Staff Congress Lend Their Support
On Monday Assemblyman Mike Miller secured the support of New York’s leading teacher unions, the United Federation of Teachers, New York State United Teachers and the CUNY Professional Staff Congress.
NYSUT represents more than 600,000 teachers, school-related professionals, academic and professional faculty in higher education, professionals in healthcare, education and retirees. The United Federation of Teachers and CUNY Professional Staff Congress are NYSUT affiliates.
“The support of our teachers and educators is a testament to the work I have done to improve our local schools to strengthen our children’s education,” noted Assemblyman Miller. “The teachers in our community know best that we need to reduce class size, bring more technology into classrooms, and fully fund our local schools. I will always work to fight for these goals and make sure our children receive the education they deserve.”
Dermot Smyth, Queens Political Coordinator of the United Federation of Teachers stated at the press conference, “It is my honor to announce the endorsement of NYSUT for Assemblyman Mike Miller’s re-election campaign. On behalf of NYSUT, I want to say that we have worked closely with Mike Miller and he has been a friend to public education. Mike has fought tirelessly for us, whether it has been working alongside his colleagues to prevent mid-year budget cuts or securing more funding for our public schools. We look forward to working with him as he will continue to be the hardworking Assemblyman our children and families deserve.”
These latest teacher’s union endorsements of Miller comes on the heels of endorsements by Congressman Anthony Weiner, State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley, SEIU 32BJ, and a host of local community and political leaders.
