Futuristic Glass Roof Cab Could Soon Be Reality on NYC Streets by Pete Donohue - NY Daily News
One of the three finalists in the city's "Taxi of Tomorrow" competition is offering virtual rides in its uniquely designed cab featuring a glass roof.
KarsanUSA's three digital videos show the "spectacular views of the city's vertical landscape through the taxi's modern, panoramic glass roof," the manufacturer said in a statement announcing its new website yesterday.
In one video, the cab rolls through Times Square, where the rider sees the neon signs and skyscrapers against the nighttime sky.
The city's goal is to emerge from the competition with one iconic, environmentally friendly design to replace the 16 different models now authorized, including the Crown Victoria.
The Crown Vic is the most dominant model on the road, but Ford is halting their production.
The other two "Taxi of Tomorrow" finalists were designed by Nissan North America and Ford Motor Company.
The city is evaluating the three companies' best-and-final applications.
"The process could take several months," a spokesman for the city Taxi and Limousine Commission said.
