The New York Observer - Danny Dromm Runs for Ciy Council Seat

The New York Observer:

"Jackson Heights City Council candidate Danny Dromm hosted a number of influential local politicians at a fund-raiser this weekend, most notably city Comptroller Bill Thompson, who will be a special guest at a fund-raiser for Dromm’s opponent in the Democratic primary, Alfonso Quiroz [time clarified]. Quiroz's boyfriend and treasurer is Thompson's director of communications."

Veteran Queens gay activist Daniel Dromm says he is looking to run for the New York City Council from the 25th district, once the home of the fictional Archie Bunker. It includes Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Corona, Woodside and Rego Park. The seat is now held by Helen Sears, who faces term limits in 2009.

At a birthday bash and political fundraiser for Dromm, the Democratic district leader and school teacher, late last month, more than 250 showed up, including Congressman Joe Crowley who hailed him as a "pioneer" in Queens gay politics. Also on hand were New York City Comptroller William Thompson, former Public Advocate Mark Green, and a raff of city and state legislators.

Dromm is a co-founder of the Queens LGBT pride parade and its LGBT Democratic club and has been active in the gay movement since the mid-1970s.
