Senate Dems Chide GOP on Aqueduct Video Slots -- Newsday.com

Senate Democrats are blaming the Republican majority for delaying installation of video slot machines at Aqueduct Race Track and costing the state $13 million in much-needed revenue.

Bringing in lucrative video slot machines to spin off money to the state and racing industry has been in the works for years. Democratic Gov. David Paterson and the Assembly's Democratic majority chose Buffalo-based Delaware North Cos. for the project more than two weeks ago. But the Senate Republicans refused to go along.

The GOP senator representing the Queens district around the track insisted on details of spin-off commerce and jobs to help the community.

The Republicans agreed Wednesday to support the deal after meeting with the company to make sure more economic development is planned.
