Rep Crowley Statement on President Obama's State of the Union Address

Today, Congressman Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), a Chief Deputy Whip in the U.S. House of Representatives, released the following statement in response to President Obama’s State of the Union address:

“It is not enough to merely strive to maintain America’s standing in the world. We must lay a foundation to ensure American workers and businesses can keep their competitive edge on the world’s stage and outpace our global competitors. Our nation was built by entrepreneurs, and it is time we tap back into the innovative spirit that put our nation on top in the first place.

“I will work with the Obama Administration and leaders in Congress to ensure we make smart and defined investments in our future. Investments that will prepare our workers and students for 21st century jobs and create the world’s next generation of leaders in science, engineering and math. Investments that will spark innovation in clean energy, transportation infrastructure and technology. Investments that encourage the ingenuity and imagination that is at the heart of this great nation.

“I also welcome President Obama’s message of unity and improved civil discourse. We can only get things done for the American people if we are respectful of one another and one another’s ideas. I look forward to working with the President and my colleagues to address the challenges facing our nation and to build a more prosperous and secure America, for today and for generations to come.”

Congressman Crowley is the seven-term representative from the 7th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx. He is a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee.
