NY1: Queens Brush Fire Contained By More Than 100 Firefighters...

Video report...

It took more than 100 firefighters to put out a stubborn brush fire in Queens Friday afternoon.

The blaze broke out around 3 p.m. near Cross Bay Boulevard and 165th Street [Avenue] in Howard Beach.

Fire officials say the fire, which took about an hour and a half to get under control, covered about ten acres of brush, but was luckily heading toward the Jamaica Bay.

"The wind was the main cause of extension of the fire,” said FDNY Deputy Chief Paul Ferro. “It just blew it right across the woods."

Fire officials say only four firefighters suffered minor injuries.

They are still investigating the cause.
