NY1: UFT Proposes Plan To Lure Teachers To Under-Performing Schools...

The city's teachers' union is offering a plan to lure top teachers to under-performing schools.

Union president Randi Weingarten made the announcement at the United Federation of Teachers spring conference Saturday in Midtown.

Several of the proposals are similar to those in a tentative contract agreement reached last month between the city and the principals union. The UFT wants to add incentives, such as extra pay and smaller class sizes.

Weingarten stresses that while struggling schools would get more resources under the plan, successful schools would not be penalized.

Schools Chancellor Joel Klein says he is willing to talk with the UFT about the proposals.
