Gulluscio Taking Aim at City Council Seat
Democratic District Leader Frank P. Gulluscio announced his candidacy for the 32nd District City Council seat. The not expected announcement was made to his fellow Democrats at the South Queens Democratic Club Meeting on Wednesday, January 30th. With a rousing vote by acclamation, Gulluscio received his Democratic Club’s enthusiastic endorsement. Current City Councilman Joseph P. Addabbo, who cannot continue to serve in the Council after 2009 due to term limits, was on hand for Gulluscio’s announcement and added his voice in support of Gulluscio.
In his remarks to those present Gulluscio spoke of his varied life experience as an educator and successful businessman. Gulluscio explained that he was blessed that his business success allowed him to retire early. In a light-hearted quip, Gulluscio noted that 60 is the new 40 and he like many of today’s retirees found he was not content to just stop contributing his skills to society. Gulluscio explained that following his retirement he had planned to return to his first love, teaching, when Addabbo convinced him to take a job as a City Council staffer. That experience led to another whole career in government as Gulluscio moved from Addabbo’s staff to a job as the District Manager of Queens Community Board 6.
As we all know, these are difficult times for our country, Gulluscio said. The issues affecting the country trickle down to the states and cities. Experience matters. I understand our schools, I understand business, I understand government and more importantly, I understand, first hand, what it means to be a middle-class resident of this city struggling to earn a living and raise a family successfully. My skills have served me well and I plan to use them to serve our community as well.
