A well-known and respected community leader died of heart failure last week and was remembered by her friends and family members.
Anne Grossman, 80, was a longtime advocate for the community, Attorney Fred Pearlman said. The Howard Beach resident served as district manager of Community Board 10 for about 20 years, achieving various victories for the residents in her neighborhood, Pearlman added.
The grandmother of three, who is also survived by her two daughters and two sons-in-law, first started her career as an aide to former City Councilman Walter Ward, who represented Howard Beach. After joining C.B. 10, she also became a member and officer of the South Queens Democratic Club.
Keeping busy even after her retirement, Grossman returned to the community board to serve as a member and volunteered at P.S. 232 in Howard Beach, where she had lived since 1961.
Grossman died on Valentine’s Day and her funeral was held Sunday at Sinai Chapels in Fresh Meadows.
