The City Council agreed to infuse $600,000 into the public advocate's budget, wiping out the decrease Mayor Michael Bloomberg proposed last month and restoring about half of the nearly 40% budget cut the office suffered last year.
Officials from the mayor's office said Monday the public advocate office's exact budget for the fiscal year beginning Thursday wasn't yet available, but officials from the council said they expected it would be roughly $2.3 million. The council is scheduled to vote on the budget Tuesday.
