A dead bluefish lies in a tidal creek in Jamaica Bay along the Eastern shore of the Gateway National Recreation Area National Park in the Brooklyn Section of New York City, August 3, 2007. A new study shows that New York's wildlife-rich saltwater marsh islands within Jamaica Bay, a sensitive tidal bird and fish habitat near JFK International Airport, are disappearing faster than had been known due to rapid degradation that may be caused by dumping of treated sewage and a cutting off of sediments that feed the marshes. Some 20 percent of America's sensitive migratory bird species stop in Jamaica Bay's marshes.
