Help Mobilize and Get Out the South Asian Vote for Local NY Races - Volunteer Now..!

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

The areas of Ozone Park and Richmond Hill in southern Queens are under close scrutiny because of an important and very tight state senate race. This race will determine which political party will have majority status in the state senate in Albany. Demographic changes in this area—State Senate District 15—have left commentators curious about the political abilities of immigrants and their role in the political process.

Much of the political community of New York is observing this race because of its statewide implications. Desis Vote is committed to seizing this opportunity and encouraging historical levels of voter participation this November to send a powerful message to the political community of New York: immigrant voters—especially the South Asian community—have the ability to organize and are demanding to be part of the decision making process.

At least 8,000 registered voters of South Asian descent live in State Senate District 15 and can be a crucial voting bloc in this highly contested senate race for control of the New York State Senate. Increased voter turnout in this election can serve to empower the community in this district and through out the city. However, low voter turnout has historically been a problem. Become a part of the Desis Vote Initiative and help change that this year.
