Our Clare Trapasso reports from Queens:

"Democratic state senate hopeful Lynn Nunes abruptly pulled out of a Richmond Hill debate that he had been brazenly pushing his opponent, incumbent state Sen. Shirley Huntley (D-Jamaica), to participate in.

His decision not to attend tonight's event, hosted by Transportation Alternatives and the Richmond Hill Economic Development Council, fueled speculation that he may be mulling a run for the late Thomas White, Jr.’s city council seat.

Nunes had challenged White for his seat last fall and lost the Democratic primary by four votes.

White (D-Jamaica) passed away on Friday. His wake is to be held tonight.

Nunes pulled out of the Transportation Alternatives debate on Monday, said organizer Moriah Kinberg. No explanation was given and the candidate could not be reached for comment.

“We’re very disappointed that Nunes confirmed and cancelled his participation at very short notice,” she said.

(Clare, incidentally, was the moderator of the debate - CK.)

Nunes is scheduled to attend a NAACP candidates forum tomorrow"
