NY1: Five Injured In Hit-And-Run In Sunnyside...
Five people were hospitalized following a hit-and-run in Sunnyside, Queens Friday morning.
Police say a red Jeep crashed into a Honda Civic near the intersection of 46th Street and Queens Boulevard at about 10:30 Friday morning.
Witnesses say the Civic jumped the curb, hitting four pedestrians. The driver and the four pedestrians were all taken to local hospitals.
A 16-year-old is at Bellevue with a serious leg injury. Witnesses and lawmakers say the crash is a sign of serious traffic problems on one of the borough's busiest streets.
"I see at least an accident every other day over there,” said one local resident. “From here to Queens Center Mall it is really horrifying."
"More needs to be done,” said Queens City Councilman Eric Gioia. “There needs to be pedestrian walkers so you can actually cross the boulevard. There need to be countdown clocks; the lights need to be timed differently. There are simple steps the city needs to take for safety on this. I mean, on a typical day you come over here and it looks like Nascar coming down Queens Boulevard and that has to end."
As of Friday night, police were still looking for a red or maroon Jeep with Florida plates and tag number W41BZU, last seen turning left on 47th Street. The jeep is missing its front bumper.
