Queens Chronicle: Visitor Station Opened by Joseph Wendelken...
Gateway National Recreation Area officials joined Queens students, environmentalists and elected officials at the national park’s new Visitor Contact Station’s opening ceremony on Monday. The building’s green design and construction includes low volatile organic paint, a system of sensor-activated lights and skylights, and its use of windpower.
Barry Sullivan, the area’s general superintendent, recognized the efforts of all of those who made the station’s opening possible. Shannon Ronquillo, a 10th-grader at Beach Channel High School, located in Rockaway, reflected on what Gateway means to her before the center’s ribbon was cut and guests were taken on tours of the building.
