July 11, 2007 -- New Yorkers have it made in the shade. A new Parks Department survey shows there are exactly 592,130 trees lining the city's streets - up 20 percent from a decade ago.
'The stereotype of a New York street is a Manhattan street, whereas, in fact, the vast majority of New York is heavily treed, with maple, oak and sycamore trees in front of single-family homes,' said Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe."
