July 13, 2007 -- Police said Dillon Fattori, 18, tried to sexually assault a 7-year-old Queens girl but was scared off by a dog hailed as a hero.
Fattori was no match for Blue, a year-old pit-bull/ boxer, who began barking when he saw the attack.
The little girl had been riding her scooter in the neighborhood with a 10-year-old friend last Friday.
The attacker had been watching, witnesses said.
He went up to the girls and said “he wanted to show them worms and birds,” one witness said. The 10-year-old ran home, but the victim stayed.
Fattori dragged her into a small walkway between two garages in a back yard on 171st Street in Flushing, police said.
“My dog was barking, which is unusual, so I went in the back to see why,” said Blue’s owner, Heather Fretes.
“He was looking in the corner of the yard, and I heard a little girl crying. I said to myself, ‘This doesn’t sound right.’ ”
When Fretes heard the little girl crying for her mommy and daddy she shouted, “What’s going on here?”
That scared Fattori off, cops said. The owner called the dog “a big hero.”
