Local Queens Coverage of Councilman Dennis Gallagher...Various Sources

Queens Courier Online Investigate Gallagher in sexual attack

Despite allegations - but no charges - of having raped a woman, many of City Councilmember Dennis Gallagher’s staunchest supporters do not believe the claim.

“I’m very skeptical, I don’t think she [the unidentified victim] is telling the truth,” said Bob Sarracco, 55, of Middle Village. “It sounds to me like she’s just somebody who’s trying to cash in on a lawsuit. There’s never been any type of allegation like this against him before.”

Gallagher, 43, a married father of two, is alleged to have met the accuser at a local bar, Danny Boy’s, on Sunday, July 8, and then bringing her back to his Middle Village office, where she claims he sexually assaulted her.

Queens Chronicle - Gallagher Investigated After Rape Allegations

By Colin Gustafson

Investigators raided the district office of Councilman Dennis Gallagher Monday, after a woman reportedly told authorities he had raped her there following an evening of drinking at a watering hole near his home.

As of press time, Gallagher had been accused of assaulting an unidentified woman Sunday night at his Middle Village headquarters, at 78-25 Metropolitan Ave. But he had not been charged with a crime.

On Monday night, beat cops could be seen standing guard outside the councilman’s office, while blue-gloved investigators searched both floors of the building and combed through the trash cans in the courtyard outside. The search included checking for DNA evidence, the lawmaker’s attorney told reporters this week.

Investigators from the office of Queens District Attorney Richard Brown scoured the premises for hours, witnesses said. Brown’s office declined to comment on the charges, citing the ongoing investigation. Nor would Council Speaker Christine Quinn comment on the matter.

Times Ledger - Police Raid Gallagher's Office

by Nathan Duke

Police conducted a raid Monday at the offices of City Councilman Dennis Gallagher (R-Middle Village) following an allegation by a woman that he sexually assaulted her after picking her up at a local bar, a source close to the investigation said.

Both the councilman's office and a spokeswoman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown declined to comment.

But a source familiar with the probe said that an allegation by a middle-aged woman involving sexual misconduct had been made against the councilman. Gallagher, who is married and has two children, is accused of picking up the woman Sunday night at Danny Boy's bar on Dry Harbor Road in Middle Village and sexually assaulting her, the source said.

Stephen Mahler, Gallaher's attorney, said the councilman was still working from his office as usual.

"Of course, he is embarrassed by this. Who wouldn't be?" Mahler said. "But I definitely think this will turn out in his favor."
