A group of New Yorkers who aren't usually on the same side - including Conservative Party Chairman Mike Long and city Comptroller Bill Thompson - filed a federal lawsuit yesterday to overturn the City Council's extension of term limits.
"We're not going to let a small group of people silence 8 million New Yorkers," said Thompson at a press conference outside City Hall.
The lawsuit, filed in Brooklyn federal court by civil-rights lawyer Norman Siegel and Randy Mastro, a former deputy mayor under Rudy Giuliani, claims that the council didn't have the right to overturn two public referenda that installed eight-year term limits.
