A New York City police officer was convicted this week of murdering his companion during an argument at a bus stop [on Atlantic Avenue at 87th Street] in [Woodhaven] Queens two years ago, prosecutors said Thursday.

A jury found the officer, Harry Rupnarine, 39, guilty late Wednesday after deliberating eight hours, prosecutors said.

Officer Rupnarine, of the Transit Bureau, was charged with using his service handgun to shoot Guiatree Hardat, 22, in the back of the head at close range in 2007. He was off duty at the time.

He will face a maximum of 25 years to life in prison at sentencing on Oct. 29.
