Richard Torrengera from P.S. 88 walked away the new champion among fourth graders for the word "juanete", which is Spanish for bunion.
He was among 60 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders who took to the stage at the Scholastic Auditorium.
"I would like to thank my teacher, my mom and my family, who always told me to study when I was watching TV,” said Torrengera.
"[The hardest part was] to spell some words that I don't know, and also with a little bit with the accents,” said fourth grader Netzy Martinez, the second-place winner.
The winners took home trophies, along with tickets to the Mets and various museums.
The bee was carried live by NY1 Noticias. It will re-air Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. on Channel 95 and 801 on Time Warner Cable.
