Department of Education said today that confidential student information is safe, despite reports suggesting otherwise.

There had been reports the DOE is scrambling to find new security programs because officials fear student information could be hacked.

But the city says that is not so and that it is simply soliciting vendors to make sure the information is protected.

In March, the city announced it would pay $80 million to purchase the Achievement, Reporting and Innovation System. The system would put information like grades, family income, and social security numbers in one large database.
