Democrats are seeking to gain the majority in the state Senate for the first time in more than 40 years – and a new poll shows that a Queens race could be pivotal.

Six races throughout the state will help determine who controls the Senate next year.

The poll, released by the Siena Research Institute, finds that the Democratic challenger, Councilman Joseph Addabbo Jr., has a 45 to 43 percent lead over incumbent Republican Senator Serphin Maltese.

Thirteen percent of voters remain undecided.

"It's going to come down to turnout – which side is better at getting their voters to the polls," said Sienna spokesman Steven Greenberg. And education – which campaign is better at making their voters aware that you can't just vote for president, you've got to work your way down the ballot, past the judges, and get to the state Senate race."

Between October 29 and November 1, 405 registered voters were contacted in the 15th Senate district, which covers the neighborhoods of Maspeth, Middle Village, Ozone Park and Woodhaven.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
