WARNING

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR KEYS IN THE CAR

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR WITH THE MOTOR RUNNING

You Risk having your Car Stolen - You will receive a summons from the 112th precinct.

Cars are being stolen within our community. Individuals are leaving the cars with the motors running, keys in the ignition and going back into their house or apartment or dropping off a child in the school, or they are going in to a convenience store for a few minutes. In a very short period of time the cars are being stolen.

Additionally, these stolen cars are then being used to commit other crimes in the community. This is something that we can stop. This is something that we must stop.

It is a violation of the vehicle and traffic law to leave a car unattended.

Section § 1210. indicates that: Unattended motor vehicle. No person driving or in charge of a motor vehicle shall permit it to stand unattended without first stopping the engine, locking the ignition, removing the key from the vehicle, and effectively setting the brake thereon and, when standing upon any grade, turning the front wheels to the curb or side of the highway…

It is a violation of the Administrative Code to leave a car idling.

Administrative Code § 24-163 indicates that : Operation of motor vehicle; idling of engine restricted. (a) No person shall cause or permit the engine of a motor vehicle, other than a legally authorized emergency motor vehicle, to idle for longer than three minutes while parking …

Do not leave your car running. You do not want to have your car stolen. You do not want to receive a ticket.
